Is ETIAS live yet?
No.
ETIAS, the EU travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not in operation. No applications are being accepted. Last verified: 25 October 2026.
What we know
- Launch date: not confirmed. In July 2026 the official portal removed its earlier target of the last quarter of 2026. It now says a date will be announced several months before launch.
- Likely timing: reports suggest 2027, because the Entry/Exit System rollout was troubled.
- Fee when it launches: €20, with a validity of 3 years.
- Decision time: up to 96 hours after applying.
- Who needs it: non-EU travellers who can enter without a visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days. EU and Schengen nationals do not need it.
What to do now
- You do not need ETIAS today. Do not pay any website to apply.
- The Entry/Exit System already records your entries and exits, so keep track of your days with the 90/180 calculator.
- Check that your passport stays valid for the period required by your destination country.
Several sites sell ETIAS applications before the system exists. Only apply through the official EU portal once it opens.
